Current law requires the Board of Pardons and Paroles to reconsider for release on parole an inmate who is serving a sentence for a second or third degree felony offense of injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual and who was previously denied release as soon as practicable after the first anniversary of the date of the denial. House Bill 431 amends the Government Code to enact Emma's Law to change the time frame of reconsideration to anytime during a month designated by the parole panel that denied release that begins after the first anniversary of the date of the denial and that ends before the fifth anniversary of the date of the denial.
