House Bill 496 amends the Government Code to clarify that the Texas Department of Public Safety may establish border crossing checkpoints within 250 yards of a federally designated crossing facility located at or near the actual boundary between Texas and Mexico. The act adds aircraft and watercraft to the list of items that law enforcement authorities are authorized to stop if there is probable cause to believe the item is stolen and bound for Mexico, and deletes the requirement of physical evidence to support the belief that the item is stolen.
