Current law authorizes a judge to revoke a defendant's community supervision following an alleged violation of a condition of the supervision without a hearing if the defendant, among other actions, waives the right to a hearing and to counsel before a court of record. House Bill 518 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to include a notary public as an alternative entity before which the defendant may take those actions for purposes of the community supervision revocation.
