Senate Bill 1377 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to require the attorney general to annually certify the amount of money remaining in the crime victims auxiliary compensation fund at the end of the preceding state fiscal year, to authorize the attorney general to transfer an amount up to 50 percent of any remaining money in excess of $5 million to the crime victims compensation fund to be used only for making compensation payments during the fiscal year in which the amount is transferred, and to prohibit the attorney general from transferring money before the 2011 fiscal year. The bill also modifies the calculation the attorney general must use in certifying the amount of excess money in the crime victims compensation fund available for state agencies that deliver or fund victim-related services or assistance.
