Senate Bill 1385 amends the Tax Code to authorize the chief appraiser of an appraisal district or the collector for a taxing unit, as applicable, to waive a penalty imposed against a motor vehicle dealer, heavy equipment dealer, or manufactured housing retailer for the failure to file an inventory declaration or an inventory tax statement by the specified filing deadline if the following conditions apply: the taxpayer seeking the waiver files a written application for the waiver within a specified period, the taxpayer's failure to file or to file in a timely manner is attributable to certain circumstances beyond the taxpayer's control, and the taxpayer is otherwise in compliance with regulations governing property tax appraisal methods and procedures.
