Senate Bill 1419 |
Senate Author: West |
|
Effective: 9-1-13 |
House Sponsor: Lewis |
Senate Bill 1419 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to establish the truancy prevention and diversion fund as a dedicated account in the general revenue fund. The bill requires a person convicted in a municipal or justice court of an offense, other than an offense relating to a pedestrian or the parking of a motor vehicle, to pay an additional $2 court cost and requires the custodian of a county treasury or municipal treasury, as applicable, to send the funds collected as costs to the comptroller for deposit to the credit of that account. Money in the account is only to be appropriated to the criminal justice division of the governor's office for distribution to local government entities for truancy prevention and intervention services. However, a custodian may retain 50 percent of the collected funds in order to operate or establish a juvenile case manager program in the county or municipality if such a program is established or in the process of being established. The bill also expands the types of cases for which a juvenile case manager may be employed by certain governmental entities and the types of services that such a manager may provide.
The bill amends the Government Code to make a conforming change.
