Senate Bill 1490 amends the Insurance Code to change the amount of a premium surcharge an insurer writing automobile insurance in Texas must assess against an insured for no more than three years immediately following the date the insured is convicted of certain intoxication offenses from an amount prescribed by the Texas Department of Insurance to an amount as stated in the insurer's rating plan.
