Previous law authorized the governing body of a municipality to provide for the appointment of a board of adjustment, which hears and decides certain zoning issues. A municipality with a population of 1.8 million or more was authorized to have a board of adjustment comprised of one or more panels, each of which must consist of exactly five members. Senate Bill 177 amends the Local Government Code to authorize a municipality with a population of 500,000 or more to have panels, each of which must consist of at least five members.
