SENATE AUTHOR: Harris |
EFFECTIVE: 9-1-03 |
HOUSE SPONSOR: Dutton |
Senate Bill 1807 amends the Family Code to expand the conditions that constitute a presumption of paternity to include a man's continuous residency in the child's home during the first two years of the child's life and representing to others that the child was his own. The bill provides that after the date a child with no presumed, acknowledged, or adjudicated father becomes an adult, the adult child is the only person with standing to maintain a proceeding to adjudicate the parentage of the person. The bill also includes guidelines relating to a proceeding to rescind or challenge acknowledgment of paternity.
