Senate Bill 285 amends provisions of the Health and Safety Code relating to the cancer registry. The bill allows the Texas Department of Health access to information that would identify cases of cancer, establish characteristics or treatment of cancer, or determine the medical status of a patient from a health care facility or health care practitioner. The bill provides that the information obtained is confidential and is not subject to subpoena or release to the public, unless the information is for statistical purposes and is used in a manner that prevents identification of the individual or each individual consents to being identified.
