Senate Bill 985

Effective: 9-1-25

Senate Author: Bettencourt et al.

Senate Committee: State Affairs

House Sponsor: Hayes et al.

House Committee: Elections

Current law authorizes the commissioners court of a county with a population of less than 1.2 million that does not participate in the countywide polling place program to combine county election precincts under certain circumstances. Senate Bill 985 amends the Election Code to extend that authority to the commissioners court of any county that does not participate in the program and to authorize the county executive committee of a political party to combine precincts in a primary election under certain circumstances. The bill also authorizes a commissioners court, for a general or special election, and the county executive committee of a political party, for a primary election, to combine county election precincts to avoid unreasonable election expenditures under certain circumstances.
