                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the longevity pay received by a member of a fire or
    1-3  police department in certain municipalities.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 141.032, Local Government Code, is
    1-6  amended to read as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 141.032.  LONGEVITY PAY.  In  a municipality with a
    1-8  population of 10,000 or more, each member of the fire or police
    1-9  department is entitled to receive, in addition to all other money
   1-10  paid for services rendered in the department, longevity pay of $5
   1-11  <$4> a month for each year of service in the department, not to
   1-12  exceed 25 years.
   1-13        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-14        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-15  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-16  emergency   and   an   imperative   public   necessity   that   the
   1-17  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-18  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
