                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the provision by public institutions of higher
    1-3  education of information relating to the Texas academic skills
    1-4  program.
    1-5        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-6        SECTION 1.  Section 51.306, Education Code, is amended by
    1-7  adding Subsection (n) to read as follows:
    1-8        (n)  An institution of higher education shall provide to each
    1-9  student under Subsection (b) of this section who applies to the
   1-10  institution for admission information relating to the testing and
   1-11  remedial requirements of this section and of the rules adopted by
   1-12  the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
   1-13        SECTION 2.  Section 51.306(n), Education Code, as added by
   1-14  this Act, applies only to a student who applies for admission to an
   1-15  institution of higher education, as defined by Section 61.003,
   1-16  Education Code, on or after September 1, 1993.
   1-17        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-18  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-19  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-20  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-21  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-22  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-23  passage, and it is so enacted.
