                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the renewal of a driver's license.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4 SECTION 1. Section 18(c), Chapter 173, Acts of the 47th
    1-5 Legislature, Regular Session, 1941 (Article 6687b, Vernon's Texas
1-6 Civil Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
1-7 (c) The Department shall require a vision examination and
1-8 may in its discretion require other examinations <an examination>
1-9 for the renewal of a driver's license.
   1-10 SECTION 2. Section 18(g), Chapter 173, Acts of the 47th
   1-11 Legislature, Regular Session, 1941 (Article 6687b, Vernon's Texas
   1-12 Civil Statutes), is repealed.
1-13 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993, and
1-14 applies to applications for renewal made at the offices of the
1-15 Department of Public Safety on or after that date. This Act does
1-16 not apply to a person who before the effective date mailed an
1-17 application for license renewal pursuant to Section 18(g), Chapter
1-18 173, Acts of the 47th Legislature, Regular Session, 1941 (Article
1-19 6687b, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), as it existed immediately
1-20 before the effective date of this Act, and the former law is
1-21 continued in effect for this purpose.
1-22 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
