                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the amount of good time awarded for actual time served
    1-3 in a county jail.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 2, Article 42.032, Code of Criminal
1-6 Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 2. The sheriff in charge of each county jail may grant
1-8 commutation of time for good conduct, industry, and obedience. A
1-9 deduction not to exceed two days <one day> for each day of the
1-10 original sentence actually served may be made for the term or terms
1-11 of sentences or periods of confinement served as conditions of

1-14 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only
1-15 to a prisoner who is in confinement in a county jail on or after
1-16 the effective date of this Act.
1-17 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-18 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-19 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-20 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-21 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-22 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
