   1-21                         A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
   1-22                                AN ACT
   1-23  relating to hand signals for bicycle operators.
   1-24        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-25        SECTION 1.  Section 70, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on
   1-26  Highways (Article 6701d, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended
   1-27  to read as follows:
   1-28        Sec. 70.  Method Of Giving Hand-And-Arm Signals.  All signals
   1-29  herein required given by hand and arm shall be given from the left
   1-30  side of the vehicle in the following manner and such signals shall
   1-31  indicate as follows:
   1-32              1.  Left turn.  Hand and arm extended horizontally.
   1-33              2.  Right turn.  Hand and arm extended upward, except
   1-34  that a bicycle operator may signal from the right side of the
   1-35  vehicle with hand and arm extended horizontally.
   1-36              3.  Stop or decrease speed.  Hand and arm extended
   1-37  downward.
   1-38        The signals herein required shall be given either by means of
   1-39  the hand-and-arm, or by a signal lamp or signal device approved by
   1-40  the department.
   1-41        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-42  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-43  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-44  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-45  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-46  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-47  passage, and it is so enacted.
