                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to storage fees charged by a vehicle storage facility.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Section 14(c), Vehicle Storage Facility Act
    1-5  (Article 6687-9a, Revised Statutes), is amended to read as follows:
    1-6        (c)  The operator of a vehicle storage facility may not
    1-7  charge less than $5 or more than $15 for each day or part of a day
    1-8  for storage of a vehicle.  A daily storage fee may be charged for a
    1-9  day regardless of whether the vehicle is stored for 24 hours of the
   1-10  day.  For the purposes of this subsection, a day is considered to
   1-11  begin and end at midnight.
   1-12        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-13        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-14  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-15  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-16  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-17  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
   1-18                       COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1
   1-19        Amend H.B. 709 on page 1, line 10, between "day" and the
   1-20  period, by inserting:  ", except that a daily storage fee may not
   1-21  be charged for more than one day if the vehicle remains at the
   1-22  vehicle storage facility less than 12 hours".
