1-15 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-16 AN ACT
1-17 relating to the date and time of the local canvass in a primary
1-18 election.
1-19 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-20 SECTION 1. Section 172.116(b), Election Code, is amended to
1-21 read as follows:
1-22 (b) The committee shall convene to conduct the local canvass
1-23 at the county seat not earlier than 6 p.m. on the first Thursday or
1-24 later than 1 p.m. on the first Friday after election day at the
1-25 hour specified by the county chairman.
1-26 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-27 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-28 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-29 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-30 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-31 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
