                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to fees charged by county attorneys, district attorneys,
    1-3  and criminal district attorneys for processing certain checks and
    1-4  similar sight orders.
    1-5        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-6        SECTION 1.  Article 102.007(c), Code of Criminal Procedure,
    1-7  is amended to read as follows:
    1-8        (c)  The amount of the fee may not exceed:
    1-9              (1)  $35 <$5> if the face amount of the check or sight
   1-10  order does not exceed $100 <$10>;
   1-11              (2)  $50 <$10> if the face amount of the check or sight
   1-12  order is greater than $100 <$10> but does not exceed $300 <$100>;
   1-13              (3)  $75 <$30> if the face amount of the check or sight
   1-14  order is greater than $300 <$100> but does not exceed $500 <$300>;
   1-15  and
   1-16              (4)  $100 <$50> if the face amount of the check or
   1-17  sight order is greater than $500 <$300 but does not exceed $500;
   1-18  and>
   1-19              <(5)  $75 if the face amount of the check or sight
   1-20  order is greater than $500>.
   1-21        SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
   1-22  to a check or similar sight order issued on or after the effective
   1-23  date of this Act.  A check or similar sight order issued before the
   1-24  effective date of this Act is covered by the law in effect on the
    2-1  day of issuance, and the former law is continued in effect for that
    2-2  purpose.
    2-3        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
    2-4        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
    2-5  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
    2-6  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
    2-7  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
    2-8  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
