   1-22  Amend House Bill No. 1016 in SECTION 1 by striking Section 22.23(b)
   1-23  in its entirety and substituting in lieu thereof the following:
   1-24        (b)  For <Upon written request by a property owner the chief
   1-25  appraiser shall extend a deadline for filing a rendition statement
   1-26  or property report until April 30, provided, however, that for>
   1-27  good cause shown in writing by the property owner, the chief
   1-28  appraiser may <further> extend a deadline for filing a rendition
   1-29  statement or property report by written order to a date not later
   1-30  than April 30 <an additional 15 days but in no event may he extend
   1-31  the filing deadline beyond May 15>.  However, if the property that
   1-32  is the subject of the rendition is regulated by the Public Utility
   1-33  Commission of Texas or the Railroad Commission of Texas, the chief
   1-34  appraiser, upon written request by the property owner, shall extend
   1-35  the filing deadline until April 30, and may further extend the
   1-36  deadline an additional 15 days upon good cause shown in writing by
   1-37  the property owner.
   1-38                         A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
   1-39                                AN ACT
   1-40  relating to the date for filing ad valorem tax rendition statements
   1-41  and property reports.
   1-42        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-43        SECTION 1.  Section 22.23, Tax Code, is amended to read as
   1-44  follows:
   1-45        Sec. 22.23.  Filing Date.  (a)  Rendition statements and
   1-46  property reports must be delivered to the chief appraiser after
   1-47  January 1 and before April 15 <1>, except as provided by Section
   1-48  22.02 of this code.
   1-49        (b)  For <Upon written request by a property owner the chief
   1-50  appraiser shall extend a deadline for filing a rendition statement
   1-51  or property report until April 30; provided, however, that for>

   1-57        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-58        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-59  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-60  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-61  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-62  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
