                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the use of lighting on emergency vehicles.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 124, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on
1-5 Highways (Article 6701d, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended
1-6 by amending subsections (c) and (d) to read as follows:
1-7 (c) <A police vehicle when used as an authorized emergency
1-8 vehicle may but need not be equipped with alternately flashing red
1-9 lights specified herein.> Every authorized emergency vehicle may,
1-10 in addition to any other equipment authorized or required by this
1-11 Act, be equipped with alternately flashing or rotating red lights
1-12 or red lights with any combination of blue, white, or amber lights.
1-13 (d) The alternately flashing lighting described in
1-14 Subsections (b) and (c) of this section shall not be used on any
1-15 vehicle other than a school bus, a church bus, an authorized
1-16 emergency vehicle, or a tow truck while under the direction of a
1-17 law enforcement officer at the scene of an accident or while
1-18 hooking up to a disabled vehicle in the roadway. Blue lights may
1-19 only be used by authorized emergency vehicles.
1-20 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-21 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-22 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-23 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-1 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-2 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
