No. 1218 73R5607 LJD-F A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to a clarification of a commercial landlord's remedies for 1-3 nonpayment of rent. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Section 93.002(f), Property Code, is amended to 1-6 read as follows: 1-7 (f) If a landlord or a landlord's agent changes the door 1-8 lock of a tenant who is delinquent in paying rent, the landlord or 1-9 agent must place a written notice on the tenant's front door 1-10 stating the name and the address or telephone number of the 1-11 individual or company from which the new key may be obtained. The 1-12 new key is required to be provided only during the tenant's regular 1-13 business hours and only if the tenant pays the delinquent rent. 1-14 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993. 1-15 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-16 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-17 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-18 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-19 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
