                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to changing the date of a political subdivision's general
    1-3 election for officers.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 41, Election Code, is
1-6 amended by adding Section 41.0052 to read as follows:
1-7 Sec. 41.0052. CHANGING GENERAL ELECTION DATE. (a) The
1-8 governing body of a political subdivision other than a county may,
1-9 not later than December 31, 1993, change the date on which it holds
1-10 its general election for officers to another uniform election date
1-11 prescribed by Section 41.001(a). An election on the new date may
1-12 not be held before 1994.
1-13 (b) A governing body changing an election date under this
1-14 section shall adjust the terms of office to conform to the new
   1-15 election date.
1-16 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-17 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-18 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-19 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-20 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-21 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
