A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to court costs for certain traffic convictions.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section (c), Article 102.014, Code of Criminal
1-5 Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
1-6 (c) A person convicted of an offense under the Uniform Act
1-7 Regulating Traffic on Highways (Article 6701d, Vernon's Texas Civil
1-8 Statutes), when the offense occurs within a school crossing zone as
1-9 defined by Section 20L of that Act, shall pay as court costs $25
1-10 <$20> in addition to other taxable court costs. A person convicted
1-11 of an offense under Section 104, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on
1-12 Highways (Article 6701d, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), shall pay
1-13 as court costs $20 in addition to other taxable court costs. A
1-14 person convicted of an offense under Section 4.25, Education Code,
1-15 shall pay as taxable court costs $20 in addition to other taxable
1-16 court costs. The additional court costs under this subsection
1-17 shall be collected in the same manner that other fines and taxable
1-18 court costs in the case are collected.
1-19 SECTION 2. (a) This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-20 (b) The change in law made by this Act applies only to an
1-21 offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act. For
1-22 purposes of this Act, an offense was committed before the effective
1-23 date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred before the
1-24 effective date of this Act.
2-1 (c) An offense committed before the effective date of this
2-2 Act is covered by the law in effect when the offense was committed,
2-3 and the former law is continued in effect for this purpose.
2-4 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
2-5 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-6 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-7 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-8 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
