Subchapter B-1, Chapter 31, Parks and Wildlife 1-27 Code, is amended by adding Section 31.056 to read as follows: 1-28 Sec. 31.056. RELEASE OF INFORMATION. (a) The department or 1-29 a county may not release to any person the name and address of any 1-30 person contained in the vessel and outboard motor records in 1-31 response to a telephone inquiry. The department or a county may 1-32 release the name and address only if the request is in writing. 1-33 The written request must contain the requestor's name and address 1-34 and must state that the use of the information is for a lawful and 1-35 legitimate purpose. 1-36 (b) This section does not apply to the release of 1-37 information to: 1-38 (1) a peace officer, as that term is defined in 1-39 Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, if the officer is acting 1-40 in an official capacity; or 1-41 (2) an official of the state, a city, a town, a 1-42 county, a special district, or another political subdivision of the 1-43 state if the official is requesting the information for tax 1-44 purposes. 1-45 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993. 1-46 SECTION 3.
