                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to fees of office of directors of Underground Water
    1-3  Conservation Districts.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 52.113, Texas Water Code, is amended to
    1-6  read as follows:
    1-7        Sec. 52.113.  <COMPENSATION OF DIRECTORS> FEES OF OFFICE (a)
    1-8  A director is entitled to receive <compensation> fees of office  of
    1-9  not more than $100 a day for each day the director actually spends
   1-10  performing the duties of a director, but the <compensation> fees of
   1-11  office  may not exceed <$500 for any one month> $6,000 per annum.
   1-12        (b)  Each director is also entitled to receive reimbursement
   1-13  of actual expenses reasonably and necessarily incurred while
   1-14  engaging in activities <in> on behalf of the district.
   1-15        (c)  In order to receive fees of office and to receive
   1-16  reimbursement for expenses, each director shall file with the
   1-17  district a verified statement showing the number of days actually
   1-18  spent in the service of the district and a general description of
   1-19  the duties performed for each day of service.
   1-20        SECTION 2.  This act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-21        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-22  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-23  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
    2-1  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
    2-2  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
    2-3  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
    2-4  passage, and it is so enacted.
