A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to certain early voting procedures.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Section 85.001(a), Election Code, is amended to
1-5 read as follows:
1-6 (a) The period for early voting by personal appearance
1-7 begins on the 20th day before election day and continues through
1-8 the fifth <fourth> day before election day, except as otherwise
1-9 provided by this section.
1-10 SECTION 2. Section 85.066, Election Code, is amended by
1-11 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
1-12 (c) For a countywide election in a county with a population
1-13 of more than 250,000 in which temporary branch polling places are
1-14 established under Section 85.062(d)(1), the commissioners court may
1-15 limit voting at a temporary branch polling place to the voters of a
1-16 particular county commissioners precinct.
1-17 SECTION 3. Section 112.006(b), Election Code, is amended to
1-18 read as follows:
1-19 (b) In a county with a population of more than 250,000
1-20 <1,500,000>, a person may vote a limited ballot by personal
1-21 appearance only at the main early voting polling place.
1-22 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-23 SECTION 5. The importance of this legislation and the
1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-1 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-2 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-3 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
