1-19 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-20 AN ACT
1-21 relating to the use of funds in the smart jobs fund.
1-22 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-23 SECTION 1. Section 481.151, Government Code, as added by
1-24 S.B. No. 130, Acts of the 73rd Legislature, Regular Session, 1993,
1-25 is amended by adding Subsection (19) to read as follows:
1-26 (19) "Small business" has the meaning assigned by
1-27 Section 481.101.
1-28 SECTION 2. Section 481.155(a), Government Code, as added by
1-29 S.B. No. 130, Acts of the 73rd Legislature, Regular Session, 1993,
1-30 is amended to read as follows:
1-31 (a) The executive director may award grants for projects
1-32 that meet the requirements of this chapter. The executive director
1-33 shall attempt to ensure that at least:
1-34 (1) 20 percent of the total dollar amount of grants
1-35 awarded under the program are awarded to minority employers; and
1-36 (2) 50 percent of the total dollar amount of grants
1-37 awarded under the program are awarded to small businesses.
1-38 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-39 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-40 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-41 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-42 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-43 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
