                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to certain election processes and procedures.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Section 31.0005, Election Code, is amended by
    1-5  adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
    1-6        (c)  Appropriate injunctive relief, as described in
    1-7  Subsection (b), against the offending conduct may be prosecuted in
    1-8  the county in which the offending conduct was committed, an
    1-9  adjoining county, or Travis County.
   1-10        SECTION 2.  Chapter 276, Election Code, is amended by adding
   1-11  Section 276.008 to read as follows:
   1-12        Sec. 276.008.  ESTABLISHING MANDATORY VENUE IN TRAVIS COUNTY.
   1-13  Any challenge to the configuration of one or more election
   1-14  districts contained in a statewide redistricting or reapportionment
   1-15  plan shall be brought in a district court in Travis County, Texas.
   1-16        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-17        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-18  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-19  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-20  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-21  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
