                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to pluralistic studies in public schools.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Section 21.101, Education Code, is amended by
    1-5  adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
    1-6        (j)  In addition to providing instruction in the essential
    1-7  elements as provided by Subsection (c) of this section, the board
    1-8  of trustees of each school district shall develop and implement a
    1-9  program of pluralistic studies to meet the needs of district
   1-10  students.  The program shall provide for pluralistic studies to be
   1-11  implemented as a component of each appropriate subject.
   1-12        SECTION 2.  Beginning with the 1994-1995 school year, the
   1-13  board of trustees of each school district shall implement a program
   1-14  of pluralistic studies as provided by Section 21.101(j), Education
   1-15  Code, as added by this Act.
   1-16        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-17  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-18  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-19  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-20  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-21  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-22  passage, and it is so enacted.
