                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to holiday pay for Department of Public Safety officers.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 411, Government Code, is
    1-5  amended by adding Section 411.0161 to read as follows:
    1-6        Sec. 411.0161.  HOLIDAY PAY.   An officer commissioned by the
    1-7  department is entitled to be paid for hours worked on a day that is
    1-8  a national or state holiday under Article 4591.2, Revised Statutes,
    1-9  at a rate equal to 1-1/2 times the compensation paid to the officer
   1-10  for regular hours.
   1-11        SECTION 2.  Section 411.0161, Government Code, as added by
   1-12  this Act, applies only to a national or state holiday worked by a
   1-13  commissioned Department of Public Safety officer on or after the
   1-14  effective date of this Act.
   1-15        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-16        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-17  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-18  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-19  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-20  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
