                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the duty of non-profit charitable housing organizations
    1-3  for the elderly to provide charity care.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Chapter 11, Subchapter B, Subsection 11.18(d)
    1-6  (13), Tax Code, is amended to read as follows:
    1-7              (13)  providing permanent housing and related social,
    1-8  health care, and educational facilities for persons who are 62
    1-9  years of age or older without regard to the residents' ability to
   1-10  pay; provided that at least 50% of the persons receiving housing
   1-11  are uninsured or underinsured and are accepted for housing with no
   1-12  obligation or a discounted obligation to pay for the services
   1-13  rendered.
   1-14        SECTION 2.  This Act take effect September 1, 1993.
   1-15        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-16  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-17  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-18  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-19  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
