                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to supplemental pay for certain law enforcement officers.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 415, Government Code, is
1-5 amended by adding Section 415.037 to read as follows:
1-6 Sec. 415.037. SUPPLEMENTAL PAY. (a) All peace officers
1-7 employed by the State of Texas who have been issued one of the
1-8 following proficiency certificates or licenses from the commission
1-9 are entitled to supplemental pay for as long as the certificates or
1-10 licenses are in effect as follows:
1-11 (1) $50 a month for an intermediate peace officer
   1-12 certificate or its equivalent:
1-13 (2) $75 a month for an advanced peace officer
1-14 certificate or its equivalent; or
1-15 (3) $100 a month for an instructor license or its
   1-16 equivalent.
1-17 (b) If a peace officer has been issued more than one of the
1-18 certificates or licenses described in Subsection (a), the officer
1-19 shall be entitled only to the supplemental pay attributable to the
1-20 most advanced certificate or license.
1-21 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-22 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-1 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-2 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-3 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
