                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the development of a pharmaceutical program for Texans
    1-3  over the age of 65.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Chapter 32, Subchapter B, Human Resources Code,
    1-6  is amended by adding Section 32.0301, to read as follows:
    1-7        32.0301 Pharmaceutical Program for Residents Over Age 65
    1-8        (a)  The department shall work with vendors and manufacturers
    1-9  to establish a reduced price pharmaceutical program to benefit
   1-10  Texas residents that are 65 years of age or older.
   1-11        (b)  Other state agencies shall cooperate with the department
   1-12  in providing information necessary to establish the reduced price
   1-13  pharmaceutical program.
   1-14        (c)  Any revenue accruing to the state as a result of the
   1-15  reduced price pharmaceutical program, including manufacturer
   1-16  rebates, shall be deposited into the General Revenue Fund.
   1-17        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-18        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-19  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-20  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-21  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-22  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
