1-19 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-20 AN ACT
1-21 relating to the terms of directors of the Seis Lagos Utility
1-22 District.
1-23 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-24 SECTION 1. Section 5(e), Chapter 527, Acts of the 71st
1-25 Legislature, Regular Session, 1989, is amended to read as follows:
1-26 (e) The district shall hold an election in the district on
1-27 the first Saturday in May of each year to elect the appropriate
1-28 number of directors to the board. Directors serve staggered
1-29 two-year terms with the terms of two directors expiring each
1-30 odd-numbered year and the terms of three directors expiring each
1-31 even-numbered year. Directors serve <Beginning with the first
1-32 Saturday in May 1990, and on the first Saturday in May of each
1-33 second year after that date, five directors shall be elected at an
1-34 election called and held for that purpose and shall serve for
1-35 two-year terms and> until their successors are elected and have
1-36 qualified.
1-37 SECTION 2. At the 1994 directors' election held by the Seis
1-38 Lagos Utility District, five directors shall be elected. Those
1-39 directors shall draw lots for terms of office so that two directors
1-40 serve one-year terms and three directors serve two-year terms.
1-41 Successor directors serve staggered two-year terms.
1-42 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
1-43 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-44 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-45 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-46 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-47 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
