   1-15                         A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
   1-16                                AN ACT
   1-17  relating to the jurisdiction of the statutory county court in
   1-18  Panola County.
   1-19        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
   1-20        SECTION 1.  Section 25.1852(a), Government Code, as amended
   1-21  by Chapters 564 and 746, Acts of the 72nd Legislature, Regular
   1-22  Session, 1991, is amended to read as follows:
   1-23        (a)  In addition to the jurisdiction provided by Section
   1-24  25.0003 and other law, and notwithstanding any law granting
   1-25  exclusive jurisdiction to the district court, a county court at law
   1-26  in Panola County has<:>
   1-27              <(1)  concurrent with the county court, the probate
   1-28  jurisdiction provided by general law for county courts; and>
   1-29              <(2)>  concurrent jurisdiction with the district court
   1-30  <in:>
   1-31                    <(A)  civil cases in which the matter in
   1-32  controversy exceeds $500, but does not exceed $100,000, excluding
   1-33  interest;>
   1-34                    <(B)  appeals of final rulings and decisions of
   1-35  the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission, regardless of the
   1-36  amount in controversy;>
   1-37                    <(C)  family law cases and proceedings; and>
   1-38                    <(D)  felony cases to accept guilty pleas and to
   1-39  conduct probation revocation hearings>.
   1-40        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1993.
   1-41        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-42  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-43  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-44  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-45  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
