HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, August Colunga "Augie" Bermea, an upstanding member
1-2 of the Galveston community and dedicated public servant, died on
1-3 June 28, 1992, at the age of 61; though his death was a sorrowful
1-4 occasion, the memory of this dynamic individual will live on in the
1-5 hearts of family and friends, comforting them as they fondly recall
1-6 his life; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Born on November 2, 1930, in Wiergate, Mr. Bermea
1-8 enjoyed a full and rewarding life diligently pursuing his goals;
1-9 with the formation of the Allied Refrigeration and Appliance
1-10 Company, he realized his dream of owning and operating his own
1-11 business and then ensured its success through his hard work and
1-12 boundless determination; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Bermea continued throughout his life to attain
1-14 the many goals he set for himself; a civic-minded individual, he
1-15 naturally moved into the political arena, serving at various times
1-16 as a city councilman, an officer of both the Planning Commission
1-17 and the Revitalization Board, and a member of the Galveston Housing
1-18 Authority Board; he also actively participated in the League of
1-19 United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) #151 and the Knights of
1-20 Columbus order #787; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Bermea lived his life motivated by a commitment
1-22 to personal achievement and by a sense of responsibility toward his
1-23 community and in so doing deeply touched the lives of everyone
1-24 around him; indeed, by his achievements and by his example, he made
2-1 a positive difference in the life of the entire community, and his
2-2 absence will be widely mourned; now, therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
2-4 hereby pay tribute to the life of August Colunga Bermea and extend
2-5 profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
2-6 Bennie Lee Bermea of Galveston; to his two daughters, Sharon Lynn
2-7 Bermea and Marie Bermea, both of Galveston; to his sisters, Elvira
2-8 Salazar and Ramona Garza, both of Texas City, Ninfa Bermea of
2-9 Galveston, Gloria Medina of Fort Worth, and Mary Christine Colunga
2-10 of Houston; to his brothers, Albert Colunga and Richard E. Colunga,
2-11 both of Galveston, and Tony Bermea of Brownsville; to his grandson,
2-12 August Theadore Edwards, and to the many other relatives and
2-13 friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further
2-14 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-15 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
2-16 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory
2-17 of Mr. August Colunga Bermea.
