                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, On January 31, 1968, in violation of a lunar new
    1-2  year truce, 80,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops launched
    1-3  their greatest offensive of the 14-year conflict, attacking 105
    1-4  cities and towns throughout South Vietnam; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Although taken by surprise, American troops
    1-6  acquitted themselves well in innumerable bitter close combats,
    1-7  eventually repelling the attacks and wrecking the Viet Cong as an
    1-8  effective fighting force; Tet cost 81,000 lives, including those of
    1-9  14,300 civilians and 3,895 Americans; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Veterans of the Tet Offensive will gather in
   1-11  Galveston on January 29 and 30, 1993, to commemorate the 25th
   1-12  anniversary of what General Norman Schwarzkopf has called the major
   1-13  battle of the Vietnam War; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The courage displayed by Tet veterans exemplifies
   1-15  the best qualities of the almost nine million U.S. military
   1-16  personnel who were involved in the Vietnam War and the general
   1-17  Southeast Asia conflict between 1961 and 1975; their bravery and
   1-18  the tremendous personal hardships they endured are truly worth
   1-19  remembering and are deserving of recognition by every American;
   1-20  now, therefore, be it
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-22  hereby honor American veterans of the 1968 Tet Offensive on the
   1-23  occasion of their silver anniversary and reunion; and, be it
   1-24  further
    2-1        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-2  prepared for presentation to the 1968 Tet Veterans Association as
    2-3  an expression of high regard by the Legislature of the State of
    2-4  Texas.
