H.C.R. No. 12 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and relatives of Raymond Bernard 1-2 Davis were deeply saddened by the recent passing of this beloved 1-3 public servant on January 6, 1993, at the age of 73, and to 1-4 demonstrate the respect and admiration given Mr. Davis throughout 1-5 the Galveston community, city flags were flown at half-staff to 1-6 mark his passing; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born March 27, 1919, this lifetime Galveston 1-8 resident answered his country's call to duty as a young man by 1-9 serving with distinction in the Army during World War II; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Reflective of both his keen competitive spirit and 1-11 hearty sense of fun, Mr. Davis began his career coaching baseball 1-12 at Kerwin High School and Ball High School, an avocation which 1-13 earned him the nickname "Coach" for the rest of his life; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In 1953 this esteemed gentleman began a career in 1-15 public service that would span a remarkable 33 years, concluding in 1-16 a productive tenure as director of parks and recreation for the 1-17 city of Galveston, from which he retired in 1986; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Raymond Bernard Davis was a man of rare dedication 1-19 and integrity; although his warmth and wisdom will be greatly 1-20 missed by all who knew him, his remarkable spirit will surely live 1-21 on in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during 1-22 his years on this earth; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 1-24 hereby honor the memory of Raymond Bernard "Coach" Davis and extend 2-1 sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his sisters, 2-2 Pauline Macaluso and Estelle Noey, both of Galveston; to his 2-3 brothers, Malcolm C. Davis and his wife, Lo Etta, of La Marque and 2-4 John W. Davis and his wife, Joan, of La Porte; to his nephew, Henry 2-5 E. Noey, Jr., and his wife and son, Sandra and Adam; and to the 2-6 many other relatives and friends of this fine man; and, be it 2-7 further 2-8 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-9 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-10 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory 2-11 of Raymond Bernard "Coach" Davis. 2-12 of Raymond Bernard "Coach" Davis. 2-13 Martin 2-14 H.C.R.
