                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The current recession facing Texas and the United
    1-2  States of America has brought economic concerns to the forefront of
    1-3  national debate as millions of citizens struggle under the burdens
    1-4  of unemployment and financial uncertainty; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, American-owned and American-operated companies
    1-6  continue to manufacture superior merchandise at competitive prices
    1-7  while heightening productivity and pioneering new forms of
    1-8  technology; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The plight of jobless workers in this nation is due
   1-10  in part to the failure of American consumers to recognize the
   1-11  importance of buying quality merchandise produced here in the
   1-12  United States; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Texans, and indeed all Americans, can help revive
   1-14  the economies of this state and nation and foster a return to
   1-15  prosperity by making a concerted effort to purchase only those
   1-16  products that are made by American workers; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The president and Congress of the United States have
   1-18  been actively working to expand manufacturing in this country by
   1-19  encouraging the purchase of American-made products, and each
   1-20  individual state should play an important role in supporting this
   1-21  noble and crucial effort; now, therefore, be it
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-23  hereby designate Labor Day, September 6, 1993, as "Help Yourself,
   1-24  Buy American Day" in Texas and urge all Texans to pay tribute to
    2-1  the American worker on that day and on all subsequent days by
    2-2  making a conscious effort to purchase American-made products
    2-3  whenever possible.
