H.C.R. No. 14
                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The dynamic community of Mesquite, Texas, has, no
    1-2  doubt, been culturally and economically influenced by its proximity
    1-3  to Dallas's enormous metroplex; yet, Mesquite, located on Dallas's
    1-4  eastern edge, has itself influenced not only Dallas but the entire
    1-5  state and nation as well in its preservation of a unique slice of
    1-6  Texas culture--the rodeo; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Established 35 years ago as an experiment in ongoing
    1-8  rodeo, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo has become legendary for its
    1-9  far-reaching popularity; thousands of tourists flock to the town
   1-10  each year to witness the world champion performers, while The
   1-11  Nashville Network and various satellite communication systems
   1-12  broadcast its events to over 1.5 million homes in Canada, the
   1-13  United States, and worldwide each week; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The modern Mesquite Arena, designed to accommodate
   1-15  more than 6,000 people, is truly state-of-the-art in both spectator
   1-16  comfort and contestant safety; more performances are held here from
   1-17  April to September each year than at any other rodeo held
   1-18  throughout the state or nation; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The size and popularity of the Mesquite Championship
   1-20  Rodeo have made it undeniably the most famous rodeo of all,
   1-21  bringing enjoyment to millions of visitors both at home and abroad;
   1-22  now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-24  hereby recognize the city of Mesquite as the official Rodeo Capital
    2-1  of Texas and commend its dedicated staff and contestants for their
    2-2  significant contributions to the success of this popular
    2-3  institution; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-5  prepared for the city of Mesquite as an expression of high regard
    2-6  by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
