                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The death of Henry Franklin Nease at the age of 67
    1-2  on December 13, 1992, has brought great sadness to the many friends
    1-3  and relatives of this retired educator and esteemed citizen of
    1-4  Abilene; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born November 19, 1925, near Lawton, Oklahoma,
    1-6  Mr. Nease earned his bachelor's degree from Midwestern State
    1-7  University in Wichita Falls and his master's degree from McMurry
    1-8  University in Abilene; as a young man, he served his country with
    1-9  great distinction in the United States Air Force in the Korean
   1-10  conflict; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, After completing his tour of duty, he married
   1-12  Shirley Waterstreet on June 12, 1954, and the happy couple embarked
   1-13  on a long and rewarding life together, moving to Abilene in 1957
   1-14  where they settled and raised their six children; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, An accomplished classroom instructor, Mr. Nease
   1-16  taught in the West Texas towns of Pecos and Robert Lee before
   1-17  joining the Abilene Independent School District where he enjoyed a
   1-18  highly successful and well-regarded 21-year tenure; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Mr. Nease remained active in his retirement,
   1-20  championing the rights of retired citizens as a member and past
   1-21  president of the Abilene Chapter of the American Association of
   1-22  Retired Persons and as a member of the Abilene Retired Teachers
   1-23  Association; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, From 1990 to 1992, Mr. Nease served this important
    2-1  portion of the population as a representative of West Central Texas
    2-2  in the Third Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, an organization that
    2-3  studies issues of special concern to older Texans as well as of
    2-4  general concern to all our state's citizens; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A man of deep religious conviction, Mr. Nease
    2-6  belonged to the First United Methodist Church and was a cherished
    2-7  member of the Harvester's Sunday School Class; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Mr. Nease also was endowed with a great love for the
    2-9  outdoors and enjoyed spending free time fishing, gardening,
   2-10  farming, and relaxing with his family; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, A man of rare dedication and vision, Henry Franklin
   2-12  Nease made significant contributions to more than two decades of
   2-13  educational progress in West Texas and provided a strong voice for
   2-14  the older citizens of his community; though his strength and good
   2-15  sense will be sorely missed, his memory will continue to serve as
   2-16  an inspiration to all those privileged to have known him; now,
   2-17  therefore, be it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-19  hereby pay tribute to the life of Henry Franklin Nease and extend
   2-20  sympathy to the members of his family:  to his beloved wife,
   2-21  Shirley; to his sister, Pauline Bruns of Lawton, Oklahoma; to his
   2-22  brothers, Leo Nease of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Felton Nease of
   2-23  Durham, North Carolina; to his daughter, Nancy Fisher and her
   2-24  husband Walter of Austin; to his daughter, Nora Nease of Austin; to
   2-25  his son, Neil Nease and his wife Linda of Berlin, Germany; to his
   2-26  son, Noel Nease of Denver, Colorado; to his son, Nathan Nease and
   2-27  his wife Belinda of Abilene; to his son, Nelson Nease of Austin; to
    3-1  his sister-in-law, Delana Nease of Lawton, Oklahoma; to his
    3-2  brothers-in-law, Joe McCune of Fletcher, Oklahoma, and David H.
    3-3  Waterstreet of Clyde; to his two grandchildren and 19 nieces and
    3-4  nephews; and to the other members of his family; and, be it further
    3-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-6  prepared for the members of his family and that when the House of
    3-7  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory
    3-8  of Henry Franklin Nease.
