H.C.R. No. 26 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Goldthwaite High School football team achieved 1-2 outstanding success during the 1992 season by advancing to the 1-3 state finals in University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 2A 1-4 football; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Winners of the 1985 Class A state championship, the 1-6 Eagles made their second appearance in a state championship 1-7 football game, reaching the 1992 title game against defending state 1-8 champion Schulenburg High School on an impressive 13-2-1 record and 1-9 thus becoming the first Goldthwaite team ever to compete in the 1-10 Class 2A finals; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Eagles' many thrilling and decisive victories 1-12 this season included three consecutive shutouts against area rivals 1-13 Ranger, DeLeon, and San Saba that showcased the overwhelming power 1-14 of the team's explosive offense and dominating defense; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Head coach and athletic director Gary Proffitt, 1-16 assistant coaches Tim Spradley, David Knauth, and Kevin Burns, and 1-17 managers Gabino Barrera, Reagan Marshall, and Ray Shockey are to be 1-18 congratulated for their hard work and tremendous skill in shaping 1-19 this excellent team; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The success of the 1992 Eagles can also be 1-21 attributed to the great talent and dedication of the team members: 1-22 Michael Geeslin, Keith Cockrum, Heath Nuckolls, Ryan Rountree, 1-23 Bryan Jernigan, Jon Robello, Craig Auldridge, Cheyenne Horton, Andy 1-24 Beard, Salomon Barrera, Scott Dowell, Jory Sutherland, Culley Carr, 2-1 Kent Schillings, Travis King, Donald Newton, J. J. Boese, Juan 2-2 Siller, Daniel Branton, George Reyes, Tony Slaughter, Paul 2-3 Wiedebusch, Clint Patrick, Luis Barrera, and Brandon Jackson; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The selfless team spirit that united this 2-5 outstanding group of young athletes to form a championship-caliber 2-6 unit also allowed the team to capitalize on the exceptional 2-7 athletic ability of each player, which was evident in the many 2-8 individual honors garnered by the Goldthwaite Eagles; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Quarterback Craig Auldridge and guard and linebacker 2-10 J. J. Boese were selected for the 1992 District 8-2A all-district 2-11 football teams, earning Most Valuable Player honors on the offense 2-12 and defense, respectively; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Eagle players Beard, Newton, Jernigan, Sutherland, 2-14 Robello, Barrera, Carr, Geeslin, Nuckolls, Rountree, and Cockrum 2-15 also were selected for all-district team honors; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Band director Chris Lovejoy, drum major Rachel 2-17 Foster, and the Eagles' exuberant cheerleaders, twirler/flag crew, 2-18 mascot, and cheerleader sponsor also deserve recognition for the 2-19 invaluable support they provided to the team; and 2-20 WHEREAS, These fine young men and their coaches have brought 2-21 great joy and pride to all the citizens of Goldthwaite and have 2-22 achieved honor for their school through a winning combination of 2-23 teamwork and athletic excellence; their extraordinary achievement 2-24 in reaching the 1992 Class 2A state football championship is indeed 2-25 worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-26 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-27 hereby congratulate the Goldthwaite High School Eagles on their 3-1 superb performance in 1992 and extend to them best wishes for their 3-2 continued success; and, be it further 3-3 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 3-4 for district superintendent Grayson Wetzel, principal Alan 3-5 Hildebrand, the coaches, team members, and managers, and for 3-6 prominent display at Goldthwaite High School as an expression of 3-7 high regard by the Texas Legislature. 3-8 prominent display at Goldthwaite High School as an expression of 3-9 high regard by the Texas Legislature. 3-10 Black 3-11 H.C.R.
