H.C.R. No. 27
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, Bill Cormack has consistently been a strong advocate
1-2 of the arts, having served with distinction for 14 years as
1-3 executive director of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA);
1-4 and
1-5 WHEREAS, After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Cormack began
1-6 his career as an educator, and his love of music later led him to
1-7 become the fine arts director of Midland Public Schools; and
1-8 WHEREAS, In 1979, he began his distinguished tenure as
1-9 executive director of TMEA, working tirelessly in behalf of music
1-10 education in public schools and as a consultant, adjudicator, and
1-11 national speaker on arts advocacy; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Under Mr. Cormack's effective and progressive
1-13 leadership, TMEA has expanded its active membership from 4,700 in
1-14 1979 to 7,800 in 1993 and sustaining memberships have grown from
1-15 706 to 1,711 business members; in addition, the number of
1-16 exhibitors at the TMEA convention has increased from 349 to 550;
1-17 and
1-18 WHEREAS, This respected gentleman's varied contributions
1-19 include serving as chairman of the Texas Society of Association
1-20 Executives and Mr. Cormack is president-elect of the Texas
1-21 Coalition for Music Education; after resigning his post with TMEA
1-22 in June 1993, he will become the fine arts director of the Dallas
1-23 Independent School District; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Mr. Cormack's dedication to his work is eclipsed
2-1 only by his devotion to his family; he shares his appreciation of
2-2 life and the arts with his loving wife, Annita, and together they
2-3 enjoy spending time with their three fine sons, Clay, Curtis, and
2-4 Chris; and
2-5 WHEREAS, Throughout his many years of service to the worthy
2-6 cause of music education, Bill Cormack has consistently striven to
2-7 foster an appreciation of music among young people, and it is
2-8 indeed fitting that his many accomplishments be given special
2-9 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-10 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
2-11 hereby commend Bill Cormack on his exemplary tenure as executive
2-12 director of the Texas Music Educators Association and offer him
2-13 best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors; and, be
2-14 it further
2-15 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-16 prepared for Bill Cormack as an expression of high regard by the
2-17 Legislature of the State of Texas.
