H.C.R. No. 37
                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, On December 31, 1992, Washington County Tax
    1-2  Assessor-Collector Vennie Herzog officially stepped down from her
    1-3  post, bringing to a close an exceptional 38-year career of service
    1-4  with the county tax office; with high standards of excellence and
    1-5  strong leadership abilities, this notable public official enhanced
    1-6  each position she held, instilling trust and confidence in the
    1-7  hearts of those she faithfully served; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Mrs. Herzog began her career with Washington County
    1-9  on August 16, 1954, when she was hired as a deputy tax
   1-10  assessor-collector; distinguishing herself by her integrity and
   1-11  hard work, this dedicated employee quickly moved through the ranks
   1-12  and in 1955 was appointed to the respected position of chief deputy
   1-13  for the Washington County tax office; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, In November 1976, Mrs. Herzog was elected to the
   1-15  office of county tax assessor-collector; in the 15 years following
   1-16  her first election victory, the fine reputation she had established
   1-17  and continued to enhance by her performance afforded her widespread
   1-18  popularity, and she ran unopposed in each subsequent election; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A truly dynamic citizen, Mrs. Herzog has long been a
   1-20  member of many professional and civic organizations, contributing
   1-21  her support to such groups as the Texas Association of Assessing
   1-22  Officers, the Tax Assessor-Collectors Association of Texas, the
   1-23  Board of Tax Professional Examiners, the American Legion Auxiliary,
   1-24  and the VFW Auxiliary; she also is a devout member of Grace
    2-1  Lutheran Church, and her active participation in church and
    2-2  community events and organizations has been an inspiring testimony
    2-3  to her dedication to the betterment of her community; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, With her commitment to professional competence and
    2-5  management excellence, Mrs. Herzog has been an indispensable asset
    2-6  to the Washington County tax office; indeed, her many contributions
    2-7  to the citizens of Washington County render her worthy of special
    2-8  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the members of the 73rd Legislature of the
   2-10  State of Texas hereby honor Mrs. Vennie Herzog for her years of
   2-11  distinguished service to the citizens of Washington County and
   2-12  extend warmest best wishes to her for a happy and rewarding
   2-13  retirement; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for Mrs. Herzog as an expression of high regard by the
   2-16  Legislature of the State of Texas.
