No. 39 73R3815 NBM-F CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Many Texans and thousands throughout the world 1-2 suffer from leukemia and other blood-related diseases and cannot 1-3 survive without a bone marrow transplant; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Seventy percent of these individuals lack a 1-5 qualified donor within their own families and must find a stranger 1-6 to offer them a second chance at life; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Registries of potential bone marrow donors offer 1-8 hope and help to patients all over the world; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Transplant programs are at hospitals in the State of 1-10 Texas, and thousands of Texans have already been registered as 1-11 potential donors; and 1-12 WHEREAS, It is the express desire of the members of the Texas 1-13 Legislature to encourage potential donors to bone marrow transplant 1-14 programs and to voice their care and concern for bone marrow 1-15 recipients; now, therefore, be it 1-16 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 1-17 hereby designate April 10-17, 1993, as Because I Care--Bone Marrow 1-18 Donor Awareness Week in Texas to raise public awareness of the 1-19 critical need for bone marrow donors in this state and to mobilize 1-20 additional support for the continuing crusade against cancer.
