No. 69 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The emergence and development of communications 1-2 technology has paved the way for more innovative and effective 1-3 techniques in fields such as medicine, commerce, and education; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This technology is particularly helpful in the field 1-5 of education, which prepares students and workers to meet the 1-6 changing demands of the future; new communications systems are able 1-7 to disseminate information and data across the country quickly and 1-8 efficiently, thus creating new possibilities for widespread 1-9 education and training efforts; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The delivery of education and training through 1-11 electronically mediated instruction has brought new learning 1-12 opportunities to areas as diverse as kindergarten through 12th 1-13 grade education, higher education, and the retraining of America's 1-14 work force; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The United States Distance Learning Association 1-16 (USDLA) has played a leadership role in legislative and policy 1-17 initiatives to expand the awareness and use of distance learning; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, The USDLA has chosen the week of March 28 to April 1-20 3, 1993, as a week of special recognition for the achievements of 1-21 distance learning professionals; the highlight of this week-long 1-22 event will be the Third Annual International Distance Learning 1-23 conference in Washington, D.C., on April 1, 2, and 3, 1993; now, 1-24 therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-2 hereby designate the week of March 28 to April 3, 1993, as Distance 2-3 Learning Week in Texas in recognition of the many significant 2-4 contributions and advances that have been made in this field. 2-5 contributions and advances that have been made in this field. 2-6 A.
