No. 70 73R5972 MPC-D CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Energy Museum, located in Beaumont, is a 1-2 nonprofit educational institution that collects, preserves, and 1-3 interprets objects and materials relating to energy and the 1-4 petroleum industry; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Incorporated in 1987 through the efforts of the City 1-6 of Beaumont, Lamar University, and numerous generous individuals, 1-7 the Texas Energy Museum opened to the public on January 10, 1990; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, Combining the former collections of the Spindletop 1-10 Museum of Lamar University and the Western Company of North America 1-11 Museum of Fort Worth, this educational museum provides exhibitions, 1-12 tours, and public programs to approximately 15,000 people a year, 1-13 including 4,000 schoolchildren; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Envisioned as one of the most important educational 1-15 and cultural efforts undertaken in the city, the Texas Energy 1-16 Museum features state-of-the-art exhibits on petroleum geology, oil 1-17 and gas formation, the history of twentieth-century oil production, 1-18 current drilling techniques, including offshore technology, and 1-19 petroleum refining and petrochemical production; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Described by the Smithsonian Institution as the 1-21 foremost energy museum in America dealing with oil and gas, the 1-22 Texas Energy Museum provides free guided tours and educational 1-23 programs designed for various age levels from preschool through 1-24 adult; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Since its establishment, the Texas Energy Museum has 2-2 endeavored to enrich the lives of the citizens of Beaumont as well 2-3 as thousands of visitors from around the state, and in so doing, 2-4 the museum has become a source of great pride to all residents of 2-5 the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 2-7 hereby designate the Texas Energy Museum as the state museum on 2-8 energy; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 forwarded to the Texas Energy Museum as an expression of the will 2-11 of the Legislature of the State of Texas.
