H.C.R. No. 73 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The 60-plus age group is the fastest-growing segment 1-2 of the United States population today, and this growth places 1-3 ever-increasing demands on programs for the elderly and calls for 1-4 every effort to be made to keep costs within reasonable limits; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Texas Silver-Haired Legislature has done an 1-6 outstanding job of representing and identifying the special needs 1-7 of the elderly population of Texas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Examples of this fine group's excellent work in 1-9 identifying these concerns can be seen in its leadership in 1-10 advocating the consolidation of all programs for the elderly under 1-11 the administrative control of one central agency and the 1-12 continuation of the homestead exemptions in the Texas Constitution 1-13 that provide protection for the family homestead and afford some 1-14 financial security to the elderly citizens of Texas; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The homestead provisions have been under attack from 1-16 different groups for many years, and the members of this energetic 1-17 organization have worked diligently to keep these provisions 1-18 intact; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The important contributions that these individuals 1-20 have made to the state as members of the Silver-Haired Legislature 1-21 truly merit legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas 1-23 hereby commend the 4th Silver-Haired Legislature for its hard work 1-24 and meaningful recommendations that greatly increase public 2-1 awareness of the special requirements of the elderly; and, be it 2-2 further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for the 4th Silver-Haired Legislature as an expression of 2-5 esteem and support by the Legislature of the State of Texas. 2-6 Turner of Coleman 2-7 Nieto 2-8 Turner of Coleman
