                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, President Bill Clinton has recently proposed to the
    1-2  United States Congress and the American people a $30 billion
    1-3  short-term economic stimulus program designed to boost our nation's
    1-4  economy; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The President's economic stimulus package is
    1-6  intended to provide between 500,000 and 700,000 much-needed new
    1-7  jobs across this country and has the potential to spur other
    1-8  sectors of the economy; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, While the full share of investment funding allocated
   1-10  to each state cannot be calculated until final passage by the
   1-11  United States Congress, it is certain that Texas will benefit from
   1-12  this economic stimulus initiative; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, For Texas, the major programs outlined in the
   1-14  President's economic proposal will produce an estimated 30,000 new
   1-15  jobs and yield approximately $566 million in new federal
   1-16  appropriations for fiscal year 1993; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The proposed economic stimulus package means new
   1-18  employment opportunities for Texans, education programs for our
   1-19  children, needed road and sewer construction, housing, childhood
   1-20  immunization, community development, care for AIDS patients, and
   1-21  improved nutrition for women, infants, and children; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The Texas congressional delegation has long been
   1-23  instrumental in the federal budget process and has displayed its
   1-24  commitment to deficit reduction and fiscal honesty and its support
    2-1  is vital to both refine and pass this essential stimulus package;
    2-2  now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the 73rd Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-4  hereby express support for the President's economic stimulus
    2-5  initiative and urge swift passage of this legislation; and, be it
    2-6  further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
    2-8  copies of this resolution to each member of the Texas delegation to
    2-9  the United States Congress as an expression of the support of the
   2-10  Legislature of the State of Texas.
